You Have to Have a Little Sympathy for Justice Stephen Breyer
Justice Stephen Breyer has served on the Supreme Court for a long time. He has served honorably and no matter what your political beliefs are, he deserves respect. He should've went out on his own terms but, as you know, it seems he's been forced out by those who think it's time to have a black woman on the Supreme Court. Now, there's nothing the matter with that but just stop and think about this for a second.
Those in power don't want to have the most qualified on the Supreme Court but they want to make sure that it's diverse. Now, I admit it, I don't know the history of the women under consideration for this position, but it really seems scary that people are putting skin color above qualifications. If a black woman is the most qualified, fine. But why did color become more important instead of qualifications or accomplishments?
This obsession with color is destroying this country. The idea of color over qualifications doesn't say much for the function of government. That should indicate to you that filling a quota would make said candidate open to outside influence. Basically, the person filling Breyer's shoes should be the smartest one in the legal field with a history of hard work and prime accomplishments. Color should not matter here- the whiney nature of progressives should not be considered. Media influence should be ignored in a process like this- Justice Breyer's seat should go to the one with the most qualifications, no matter what the color.
Stephen Breyer served his country well but he's not going to be remembered. What will be remembered is our president's obsession with race and 'equity.' Justice Stephen Breyer deserved a lot better and it's a shame that he had to finsish his career this way.
