Judas Priest and a 'Woke' Rob Halford

I am a Generation-X metalhead who was introduced to heavy metal via an older brother blasting Iron Maiden and Judas Priest through the family home.  I can honestly say the first heavy metal album I remember hearing was Screaming For

Vengeance.  Let me put it to you this way, I always thought Judas Priest was just a freaking cool band and I love listening to their older stuff today.  With all of that being said…

I’m sure you’ve heard that Rob Halford’s memoir came out and it’s called Confess.  There seems to be a little bit of everything in there but there’s specific emphasis on his sexuality (he’s gay) and people seem anxious to get their hands on it, mostly for the ‘omigod factor.’  The omigod factor meaning they want a sleazy story and that’s fine.  As a matter of fact, it’s good to see that it’s being well-received but…

Oh man, there’s always a, but right?

Understand something, it’s good that gay men and women don’t have to hide anymore.  A lot of good people lived in fear of being found out for a long time.  Here’s the thing about Rob Halford, way back when metal was actually cool you heard the talk that he was a gay but here’s a newsflash:

          No one cared.

That’s just it.  No one cared that he was gay it was all about the music.  Judas Priest meant that you were wild, adventurous, and cool.  In the age of the late ‘70s to the ‘90s they meant something with he music, not that they don’t now but I really don’t like the fact that they’re turning into a band that’s centered on the fact that Rob Halford’s gay.

It’s obvious why he’s doing it though (releasing the book and talking more about his sexuality), he wants to somehow get Judas Priest in the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in this woke culture.  It would be an absolute tragedy that the only way Judas Priest would make it into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame due to Rob Halford’s sexuality.  This is a band with a rich history and great music.  This woke Rob Halford isn’t cool and I liked it a lot better when I actually had no idea who Halford slept with.
