Little 'Woke' Women
You know I always liked Little Women. I loved the book and really liked the 1994 movie. When I heard about this recent, 'up-to-date' version a couple of months ago- my first question was this:
Why?
Seriously, why?
Why do we even need another version of Little Women? Why do we need a 'woke' Little Women? Louisa May Alcott was 'woke' before anyone even heard of it. What happened to 'don't fix it if it isn't broken?'
First off, from a glance at Twitter (no, I'm not on it-LOL), I see the Twitter world is enamored with it. That tells me I'm glad I stayed away from it. I also had to chuckle at the fact that many don't think it's 'woke' enough because it's about 4 white women. Oh boo-hoo- cry me a river. Did any of you ever think that some of these people who are obsessed with being 'woke' have a little too much time on their hands?
Obviously, I can't give you a review but I'll give you a take. First, the lady playing Jo doesn't even look like her. For a tomboy, she doesn't look that athletic, I thought she seemed kind of klutzy. Say what you will about Winona Ryder and yeah, she was too short for Jo, but she had all the right moves to make her version work. Secondly, from the previews, all of them looked to fancy. Third, this disregard for men in this movie has me scratching my head. In the book, they all loved their father. Beth adored Mr. Lawrence. Finally, the movie just doesn't have a good feel. To me you have a director looking for an Oscar and they'll probably give to her out of politics and the entire thing just seems to be built around award season instead of telling a good story.
In conclusion, I'll stick to the 1994 version!
