Is Individuality Extinct?
Well...?
Is it?
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary individuality is defined as:
'total character peculiar to and distinguishing an individual from others.'
To put it bluntly, it's being your own person. As a Generation-Xer, I can say that it was encouraged and pushed upon you to find your own way in the world while being the best person you could be. Be a leader, not a follower. Ask questions- if you have an opinion keep it.
Ahhhh we were a lot happier when individuality ruled the earth.
Oh I know, many of you don't see a problem and in a sense, you're right but read comment boards to movies and articles. There's a clique problem in this country. Everyone seems to be anxious to join in singing the praises of the latest trend. Why? Well, I could spend hours dissecting this. We could get into sociological territory here. If you want to be brief, consider that points of socialization (malls, bookstores, roller rinks, etc) are gone. People live online and are looking to find their niche. In the meantime, everybody is alone so much that they can't help but join in the latest YouTube or Twitter trend.
What's the point of all of this? Don't give up thinking for yourself. It's easy to get sucked in by the online world but please- if you have your own opinion stand by it. For god's sake the online drones are turning everything into such a yawn. How about a trend called 'variety' instead? Think about it and put it on top of your New Year's resolution list!
