The Arrest of Julian Assange
As you know, Julian Assange has been arrested.
What words come to mind?
Let’s see…
Horrifying?
Troubling?
Scary?
Intriguing?
Sad?
Personally, I think it’s a combination of all of the above
due to several reasons. Now, understand
something, Assange has the amazing ability to frustrate you, tick you off and
make you think which makes him the shining example of what a real media outlet
should be. Yeah, I’ve questioned his
motivations and his timing but who hasn’t done the same thing when they found
out something called ‘valuable information.’
So, let me add another word to describe the feelings after his arrest:
Uneasiness.
Why uneasiness?
Julian Assange provided us with a valuable outlet. He made sure that people knew what was really
‘going on.’ America lives with the idea
of a free press which is laughable but we, the general public, really never
question it because we knew for years that at least Assange was out there to ‘set
us straight.’ Now, take a look at how
the press is reacting to this and watch them in the upcoming weeks. The public’s right-to-know will be punished
more than ever now due to their gloating over the arrest of Julian Assange. I don’t like the way this is going, right
now, and I don’t like how this will probably end up.
And I have a sneaky feeling that RT (at least in America)
might be gone from the airwaves next.
