Mel Brooks Deserves Better

          So, they put a warning tag on Blazing Saddles.

          With all of the violence, bad attitudes, the madness of Twitter, the sleaziness of the online world, Blazing Saddles has been deemed so inappropriate, so disturbing that they put a warning label on it.  So, here’s my question for HBO Max-

          Have you idiots even seen this movie?

          Blazing Saddles is a classic Mel Brooks comedy that featured Richard Pryor as one of the writers.  It also starred Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman, Madeline Kahn and featured Cleavon Little as the sheriff (a black men). Let’s add that there was an appearance from the great Count Basie! Together with many more great and funny actors they created one of the funniest ‘spoofs’ in history.

          And now it has a trigger warning (or a label)…

          What a slap in the face to the great Mel Brooks.  What a rotten thing to do to a man who has given so many people so much joy with his funny movies and introduced us to people like the late great Cleavon Little and Gregory Hines (History of the World Part 1).  Gregory Hines, in case you didn’t know, was in many movies and a great dancer too.  Let’s also note that he introduced us to Dave Chappelle, who’s first movie was Mel Brooks’s Robin Hood: Men In Tights.

          Let’s add this up, Mel Brooks, a Jewish comedian who became famous for spoofs, always seemed to make it a point to promote an up and coming black actor for one of his movies.  Again, Mel Brooks made SPOOFS- comedy- you know, stuff that makes you laugh.  Did we forget about that?  Putting a trigger label on his movie is not only disgusting but despicable.

          Mel Brooks deserves a lot better.
